Without Limits

Man proposes, God disposes. This does not mean that we will sit down doing nothing would have the desire result. Nor we work very hard but there will rely on luck or some other spiritual forces to create the expected result. Recently I have riveted a movie that was an inspiration to our work.

American runners Steve Prefontaine brought me so many images I know will never leave me. Pre, Steve’s nickname name loved running as his sport fanatic.
He inspired me a lot from his impeccable running technique and his undefeated mindset.

Prefontaine was an aggressive runner, insisting on going out hard and not relinquishing leads, a tactic that his fans and fellow competitors admired. He was quoted as saying, "No one will ever win a 5,000 meter by running an easy two miles. Not against me". Prefontaine gained national attention, and then appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated at age nineteen. He received Gold medal at Munich Olympian Games.

Donald Southerland converted a dream of Pre’s coach Bill Bowerman into luminous screen performance. Bill, being a coach in Oregon University, used to hand made seamless running shoe by using his wife’s Waffle iron for Pre, used to be a fan of Adidas, and found that Bill’s shoes fitted him well He then asked for a few more pairs for his next conquer at Montreal! Donald Southerland rewarded the Golden Globe and Golden Satellite prize at 1999 as Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in this movie “Without Limits”. This is a story for an athlete who has passion in running could met with unanimous applause.

A poor peasant girl once bought ten eggs from market, on the way home she met a man who asked her to borrow her five eggs and he will return her ten eggs the next day. She thought for a while and did not hesitate and gave five eggs to him. On the way back home, she started to feel glad that by next day she might have fifteen eggs.However the basket with only five eggs would be rocking each other on the corrugated trail. And all of the 5 eggs were broken after the two hours’ walk. She was so scared and afraid that the master will get angry on her and get sick the night when she reached her master house.

This story tells us stay focus and work out the best you can from your job in the company! I do not suggest to speculate in the stock market as 95% of the people get nothing after a while in it unless you know what is the things doing behind the scene.

We have heard a lot of bad news such as lay offs, pay cut, high unemployment rate 5.6%, 7 % GDP drop in first Quarter, overall export slash 23% as the worst after 1954. The Chrysler is one of three US car makers go registered chapter 11 as I had expected in 2008. Now it is a Fait Accompli!

When you have chosen reasonable, meaningful, and aligned goals, pursue them with all your heart. The goal can be your own saving target, your oversea marriage vacation, delivery plan for the machine for customer…. As for most us, we may not aware that we have already chosen by destiny that probably we are working in one of the best companies in Hong Kong, thought people may be criticizing that I am more or less can not avoid the old spook of paranoid of flattery on our company.
Guess what who has the best performance in the past 40 years and will not have any lay off? The largest bank in the world laid off 50,000 staff in a memorandum signed by a pedantic CEO. A new appointed CEO of a TV broadcasting company has announced that no plan to have next layoff in coming future in January, 4 months later they cut another 150 job in the news department last week.

The most sizable bank had to close its mini bank services, erased those 150 Prominent managers name from the list of staff. Who care that they have possibly contributed 10 Billions profits for the company?

Misfortune tells us what fortune is. Our CEO has announced to the media that we do not have lay off culture. And we will use alternate ways to skim off the fat and keep polishing our sword to fight with this economy turmoil. We have made use o this opportunity in working out many amazing new products in the past 7 months.

When the market bounces, we will capture another significant market share as we did in 2002 and 2004.

Pre's Rock is a memorial at the site of the roadside boulder where Prefontaine passed away at age 24! It is located on one of the hill's "blind" curves which resulted in Prefontaine's fatal car accident. The rock is just across the Willamette River from the east end of Pre's Trail, the memorial features a plaque with a picture of Prefontaine that reads:

For your dedication and loyalty
To your principles and beliefs...
For your love, warmth, and friendship
For your family and friends...
You are missed by so many
And you will never be forgotten

We wish everyone is an honesty marathon man, work consistent and persistently with passion on each of our position, many a little makes a mickle.
Our Company will be another Hong Kong Success Story of “Without Limits”! The time will remain to be one of the witnesses.
